The Timeless Way of Speedreading

This is a note from the beginning of Christopher Alexander’s The Timeless Way of Building, titled “On Reading This Book.”

I have arranged each chapter in such a way that you can read the whole chapter in a couple of minutes, simply by reading the headlines which are in italics. If you read the beginning and end of every chapter, and the italic headlines that lie between them, turning the pages almost as fast as you can, you will be able to get the overall structure of the book in less than an hour.

It’s the first time I’ve seen a book designed for speed reading.

The above was posted to my personal weblog on December 5, 2003. My name is Peter Lindberg and I am a thirtysomething software developer and dad living in Stockholm, Sweden. Here, you’ll find posts in English and Swedish about whatever happens to interest me for the moment.
