Ideas Summon Other Ideas

This is from Umberto Eco’s Travels in Hyperreality, from the end of the essay “Cogito Interruptus:”

Even when they are merchandised in a jumble, good and bad together, ideas summon other ideas, if only to be refuted.

It made me think about the blogosphere, and it would be a suitable motto for this weblog. (Eco said this in relation to answering whether or not you should read McLuhan, whom he thought was too vague. “Read McLuhan,” he concluded, “but then try to tell your friends what he says. Then you will be forced to choose a sequence, and you will emerge from the hallucination.”)

The above was posted to my personal weblog on November 16, 2003. My name is Peter Lindberg and I am a thirtysomething software developer and dad living in Stockholm, Sweden. Here, you’ll find posts in English and Swedish about whatever happens to interest me for the moment.
